Kuroda Yasuaki

Born in 1986. He grew up in Niigata Prefecture and is currently based in Kanagawa Prefecture. Graduated with an MA in Industrial, Interior and Craft Design Course, Graduate School of Design from Musashino Art University in 2012. Inspired by the relationship between thread and language, Kuroda weaves plant-dyed silk, selecting each strand individually. Each textile embodies thousands of choices, reflecting not only the artist but also silkworms, plants, soil, and water, and thus, the history of a variety of existences is woven into the work. Through the act of weaving, it explores interconnectedness, transcending binary oppositions and revealing humans and the world as mutually constitutive.

His recent exhibitions include "COUNTERPOINT" (drj art projects, Berlin, Germany, 2025), "COLOUR FIELD ON FIELD" (Galerie Robertson Arès, Montreal, Canada, 2024), "What is behind 'seeing'?" (ANA Intercontinental Hotel Tokyo, 2024). He participated in the Tokyo Artist Accelerator Program (TAAP) (Arts Council Tokyo, 2025) and "TWS-Emerging 2017: contextile" (Tokyo Wonder Site Hongo).
