The area of water now occupied by the Port of Tokyo was once known as Shinagawa Bay. Since the Jomon period, people have lived along its shores, and Shinagawa later flourished as an important center of transportation and trade. This exhibition explores the history of the area's transformation and growth from Shinagawa Bay into the modern Port of Tokyo, highlighting changes to the waterfront following the construction of the Odaiba fortifications and the evolving relationship between the city and the sea since the Meiji era.
