Nishimura Ryo

Born in 1993 in Kyoto. Graduated with an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Kyoto City University of Arts in 2018. Currently based in Kyoto. Working primarily with the drypoint technique of copperplate printmaking, Nishimura reinterprets lines that exist within the natural world, making nature’s fluidity and the cycle of life and death visible. Through the processes of carving and printing, he reenacts a fundamental human endeavor that has existed since ancient times: the observation, imagination, and exploration of reality through lines that do not inherently exist in nature.
His recent exhibitions include “Keep a rivers pulse” (Takamatsu City Museum of Art Citizens Gallery / SICS, Kagawa, 2025), “Putting life on paper / Planting seeds of Light” (TAKU SOMETANI GALLERY, Tokyo, 2025), and "Burrowing into Time" (Aomori Contemporary Art Centre, 2023).
He participated in “TOKAS-Emerging 2026: Traveling through our life form / discarding our form / observing a landscape” (Tokyo Arts and Space Hongo, 2026).
