Nomura Zai

Born in 1979 in Hyogo Prefecture. Earned a PhD from Musashino Art University in 2013. He is currently based in New York, Tokyo, and Hyogo Prefecture. Nomura's practice centers on the relationship between existence and memory, using photography, sculpture, mechanical devices, and at times performance, to explore the disappearance of matter—including the body—and the transformation of memory. By materializing subtle traces of everyday life and visualizing the fluctuations of matter and time, he seeks to reveal the nature and essence of existence.

His recent exhibitions include "The 13th Seoul Mediacity Biennale – Séance: Technology of the Spirit" (Seoul City Museum, 2025), "Today, is the day" (parcel, Tokyo, 2025), "It's OK, the fact you exist will never fade even though this universe will be gone" (Shiseido Gallery, Tokyo, 2024), "At Six and Seven" (Ulterior Gallery, New York, 2022). He participated in "OPEN SITE 8: Can't Remember I Forgot You" (Tokyo Arts and Space Hongo, 2024).
