Artist
Yamagata Rui

Born in 1997 in Nagano Prefecture. Graduated with an MFA in Oil Painting from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2022. Currently based in Tokyo. Her practice focuses on the boundary between the visible and invisible generated by visual technology and the structural distance between the act of “seeing” and “knowing.” Bridging aerial view images like Google maps, moving images, and paintings, her works question the bodily terrestrial experience and its threshold.
Her recent exhibitions include “Pararell Circuit” (Chinretsukan Gallery, The University Art Museum, Tokyo University of the Arts, 2025), “HOW TO NOTATE LANDSCAPE” (KUMA GALLERY, Tokyo, 2024), and “Ground Zero” (KYOTO ART CENTER, 2023).
